Excavation 2004

16th August: Work began on Monday 16th August in the pouring rain!!  We have not been very fortunate with the weather, but work has started on the gated entrance of the enclosure of the farmstead and a new area has been added to the south of the well.

We intend to excavate the whole entrance and section the ditches that were shown on geophysical survey.  We will also be continuing the geophysical survey of the entire field during this season using both magnetic and resistance meters.

At least the sun did shine long enough to start to remove the topsoil on the new trenches (above), but an awful lot of pot washing took place! (below)
